‘गोवर्धन पूजा’ हिन्दुओ का प्रसिद्ध त्यौहार है। यह सम्पूर्ण भारत में मनाया जाता है। प्रत्येक साल यह त्यौहार दिवाली के अगले दिन मनाया जाता है। गोवर्धन पूजा को भारत के कुछ हिस्सों में “अन्नकूट पूजा” के रूप में भी जाना जाता है यह दिन उत्तर भारत से लेकर साउथ इंडिया तक बड़ी ही धूमधाम से मनाया जाता है।

गोवर्धन पूजा में गोधन यानी गायों की पूजा की जाती है। शास्त्रों में बताया गया है की गाय उसी प्रकार पवित्र होती है जैसे नदियों में गंगा। गाय को देवी लक्ष्मी का स्वरुप भी कहा गया है। देवी लक्ष्मी जिस प्रकार सुख समृद्धि प्रदान करती है उसी प्रकार गौ माता भी अपने दूध से स्वास्थ्य रूपी धन प्रदान करती है।

हिन्दू कैलेंडर में गोवर्धन पूजा एक शुभ दिन है और हर वर्ष मनाया जाता है। लोग भगवान श्री कृष्ण की मुर्तिया बनाते है और विभिन्न प्रकार के भोजन और मिठाइयां परोसते है। महिलाए इस दिन पूजा- पाठ करती हैं और भजन गाती है और वे गायों को भी माला पहनाती हैं और उन पर तिलक लगाती हैं और उनकी पूजा भी करती हैं।

इस दिन लोग अपने घर के आंगन में गाय के गोबर से एक पर्वत बनाकर उसे जल, मोली, रोली, चावल, फूल दही तथा तेल का दीपक जलाकर उसकी पूजा करते हैं। इसके बाद गोबर से बने इस पर्वत की परिक्रमा लगाई जाती है।

इसके बाद ब्रज के देवता कहे जाने वाले गिरिराज भगवान को प्रसन्न करने के लिए उन्हें अन्नकूट का भोग लगाया जाता है।

‘Govardhan Puja’ is a famous festival of Hindus. It is celebrated all over India. Every year this festival is celebrated on the next day of Diwali. Govardhan Puja is also known as “Annakoot Puja” in some parts of India. This day is celebrated with great fanfare from North India to South India.

In Govardhan Puja, Godhan i.e. cows are worshipped. It has been told in the scriptures that the cow is as pure as the Ganges in the rivers. The cow is also said to be the form of Goddess Lakshmi. Just as Goddess Lakshmi provides happiness and prosperity, in the same way cow mother also provides wealth in the form of health with her milk.

Govardhan Puja is an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar and is celebrated every year. People make idols of Lord Shri Krishna and serve different types of food and sweets. Women worship and sing hymns on this day and they also garland the cows and apply tilak on them and also worship them.

On this day people make a mountain out of cow dung in the courtyard of their house and worship it by lighting a lamp of water, moli, roli, rice, flower curd and oil. After this, the circumambulation of this mountain made of cow dung is done.

After this, Annakut is offered to Lord Giriraj, who is called the deity of Braj, to please him.
