भारत त्योहारों और मेलो की भूमि है ऐसा इसलिए कहा जाता है क्योंकि यहाँ विभिन्न धर्मो के लोग रहते है, और वे सभी पूरे साल अपने- अपने त्योहारों और उत्सवों को मनाते है। लोग विशेष रूप से, पूर्वी भारत में मनाया जाने वाला नवरात्र अथार्त नौ रात्रो का त्योहार या दुर्गा पूजा एक त्योहार है।
नवरात्रि हिन्दुओ का एक मुख्य पर्व है। यह पुरे भारत में बहुत उत्साह के साथ मनाया जाता है। नवरात्रि संस्कृत भाषा का शब्द है- जिसका अर्थ है “नौ रातें” इन नो रातों में देवी के नौ रूपों की पूजा की जाती है।
यह पूरे देश भर में खुशहाली पूर्ण उत्सवों का वातावरण लाता है। लोग देवी दुर्गा की पूजा के लिए मंदिरो में जाते है या घर पर ही पूरी तैयारी और भक्ति के साथ अपने समृद्ध और भलाई के लिए पूजा करते है।
पूरे भारत में नवरात्र का त्योहार अलग- अलग तरीके से मनाया जाता है। गुजरात में इसे ‘इंडिया’ और ‘गरबा’ के रूप में मनाया जाता है देवी के सम्मान में भक्ति प्रदर्शन के रूप में गरबा ‘आरती’ से पहले किया जाता है और इंडिया समारोह उसके बाद, पश्चिम बंगाल में इसे दुर्गा पूजा के रूप में मनाया जाता है।
नवरात्र का त्योहार वसंत की शुरुआत और सरद ऋतु की शुरुआत में आता है। यह दो समय माँ दुर्गा की पूजा के लिए पवित्र अवसर माने जाते है। त्योहार की तिथियां चंद्र कैलेंडर के अनुसार निर्धारित होती है। नवरात्रि के पहले तीन दिन देवी दुर्गा के विभिन्न रूपों की पूजा की जाती है। यह पूजा देवी की ऊर्जा और शक्ति की की जाती है। चौथा, पांचवा और छठा दिन लक्ष्मी- समृाद्ध और शांति की देवी की पूजा करने के लिए समर्पित है।
सातवे दिन कला और ज्ञान की देवी सरस्वती जी की पूजा की जाती है। आठवे दिन देवी दुर्गा की पूजा की जाती है। नौवां दिन नवरात्रि का अंतिम दिन है। इस दिन कन्या पूजन होता है और नौ कन्याओ की पूजा की जाती है।
नवरात्रि के आने से पहले ही लोग इसकी तैयारी करना शुरू कर देते है। इसमें सबके पहले माता के नौ रूपों की तस्वीर, फूलो की माला, अलग-अलग तरह के फल और सिंगार की चीज़े लाई जाती है। मंदिर को सजाने की वस्तुएं भी लाई जाती है। इस पर्व में लोग उपवास भी रखते है कुछ लोग पूरे नौ दिन का उपवास रखते है और कुछ लोग बस दो दिन का उपवास रखते है।
यह उपवास नौ कन्याओ को भोजन करवाने के बाद ही पूरा होता है। इन नौ दिनों के दौरान लोग देवी की पूजा अर्चना करते है और उनका भजन कीर्तन करते है। माना जाता है की नौ कन्याओ को भोजन करवाना, नौ देवियो को भोजन करवाने जैसा है क्युकी उन नौ कन्याओ को नौ देवियो का रूप हिन्दू धर्म में माना जाता है।
नवरात्र या दुर्गा पूजा का उत्सव बुराई के ऊपर अच्छाई की जीत के रूप में मनाया जाता है। भक्तो द्वारा यह विश्वास किया जाता है की इस दिन देवी दुर्गा ने बैल राक्षक महिषासुर पर विजय प्राप्त की थी उन्हें भगवान ब्रहमा, भगवान विष्णु और भगवान शिव के द्वारा इस राक्षक को मारकर और दुनिया को इस से आज़ाद करने के लिए बुलाया गया था।
इस प्रकार यह पर्व देवी माँ के नौ रूपों को समर्पित पर्व है। दसवे दिन को दशहरे के रूप में मनाया जाता है। इस दिन भगवान राम ने रावण का संहार किया था।

India is the land of festivals and fairs. It is so-called because people of different religions live here, and they all celebrate their respective festivals and occasions throughout the year. People especially, Navratri i.e. Nine Nights Festival or Durga Puja is a festival celebrated in Eastern India.
Navratri is one of the main festivals of Hindus. It is celebrated all over India with great enthusiasm. Navratri is a Sanskrit word- meaning “nine nights”. During these nine nights, nine forms of Goddess are worshipped.
The festival of Navratri is celebrated in different ways all over India. In Gujarat, it is celebrated as ‘India’ and ‘Garba’. Garba is preceded by ‘Aarti’ as a devotional performance in honor of the goddess and India After that in West Bengal it is celebrated as Durga Puja.
The festival of Navratri marks the beginning of spring and the beginning of winter. These two times are considered to be sacred occasions for the worship of Maa Durga. The dates of the festival are determined according to the lunar calendar.
Various forms of Goddess Durga are worshiped on the first three days of Navratri, this puja is done for her energy and strength. The fourth, fifth, and sixth days are dedicated to worship Lakshmi- the goddess of prosperity and peace.
On the seventh day, Saraswati, the goddess of art and knowledge, is worshipped. Goddess Durga is worshiped on the eighth day. The ninth day is the last day of Navratri. On this day Kanya Puja takes place and nine girls are worshipped.
People start preparing for it even before the arrival of Navratri. In this, first of all, the picture of nine forms of the Goddess, a garland of flowers, different types of fruits, and ornaments are brought. Temple decoration items are also brought. In this festival, people also keep fast, some people fast for nine days and some people keep fast for only two days.
This fast is completed only after feeding nine girls. During these nine days, people offer prayers to the goddess and chant her bhajans. It is believed that feeding nine girls is like feeding nine Goddesses because those nine girls are considered nine Goddesses in Hinduism.
It brings an atmosphere of joyful festivities across the country. People go to temples to worship Goddess Durga or worship at home with full preparation and devotion for their prosperity and well-being.
Durga Puja is actually celebrated with the desire to get power so that the evils of the world can be put to an end. Thus this festival is dedicated to the nine forms of Mother Goddess. The tenth day is celebrated as Dussehra. On this day Lord Rama killed Ravana.
