Brains and Brawn Story in English

Once upon a time, There were two brothers, The elder brother was Vidyachatur and the younger one was Virchand. They possessed qualities exactly according to their names. Vidyachatur was intelligent and clever in his studies. Virchand was more interested in sports.

Vidyachatur was appointed the Chief Minister in the court of the king of Wankaner. Virchand joined the army of the king of Morbi. Both the brothers were hardworking. Loyal and sincere in their respective fields. They earned a good name for themselves. However, Vidaychatur’s fame and glory had spread far and wide.

One day, both the brothers came to their hometown to see their parents. Everybody in the village came to meet the brothers. But all of them praised Vidyachatur only. Even their father praised only his elder son and said that he was very proud of him.

Therefore, Virchand was annoyed. The father realized this and thought of a plan to convince Virchand of Vidyachatur’s superiority.

Now, it so happened that on a small hillock near their house, a bitch had given birth to four puppies. The father asked Virchand to go and find out what there was at the top of the hillock. Virchand quickly climbed up the hillock and returned immediately.

The father asked him, “Son, what did you see there on the hillock?”

Virchand replied, “Father, a bitch has given birth to puppies on that hillock.”

The father further said, “How many puppies are there?”

Virchand did not know the answer! So, he again runs up the hillock and returned immediately. He said, “Father, there are four puppies.”

The father said, “What color are the puppies?”

Again, Virchand did not know the answer! So, he ran up the hillock and returned soon. He said, “Father, one of the puppies is black and the other three are brown in color.”

After some time, the father called Vidyachatur and asked him to go and find out what there was at the top of the hillock.

Vidyachatur climbed up the hillock and came back after some time.

The father asked him, “Son, what did you see on the hillock?”

Vidyachatur replied, “Father, a bitch has given birth to puppies on that hillock.”

The father further asked him, “How many puppies are there?”

Vidyachatur replied at once, “Father, there are four puppies.”

The father then asked, “What color are the puppies?

“Father, one of the puppies is black and the other three are brown,” replied Vidyachatur promptly.

When the father was asking Vidyachatur these questions, Virchand was also present there. He realized that his elder brother had gone only once on the hillock and had brought all the information about the bitch and her puppies. But he had to go there thrice to get the same information.

Now Virchand also began to admire his brother’s intelligence. He realized that his brother was, indeed, superior to him.

एक बार की बात है, दो भाई थे, बड़ा भाई विद्याचतुर और छोटा वीरचंद था। उनमें अपने नाम के अनुरूप ही गुण थे। विद्याचतुर अपनी पढ़ाई में होशियार और चालाक थे। वीरचंद को खेलों में अधिक रुचि थी।

विद्याचतुर को वांकानेर के राजा के दरबार में मुख्यमंत्री नियुक्त किया गया था। वीरचंद मोरबी के राजा की सेना में शामिल हो गए। दोनों भाई मेहनती थे। अपने-अपने क्षेत्रों में वफादार और ईमानदार। उन्होंने अपने लिए एक अच्छा नाम कमाया। हालाँकि, विदयचतुर की प्रसिद्धि और महिमा दूर-दूर तक फैल गई थी।

एक दिन दोनों भाई अपने माता-पिता से मिलने अपने गृहनगर आए। गाँव के सभी लोग भाइयों से मिलने आए। लेकिन उन सभी ने विद्याचतुर की ही प्रशंसा की। यहाँ तक कि उनके पिता ने भी केवल अपने बड़े बेटे की प्रशंसा की और कहा कि उन्हें उस पर बहुत गर्व है।

इसलिए वीरचंद नाराज हो गए। पिता को इस बात का एहसास हुआ और उन्होंने वीरचंद को विद्याचतुर की श्रेष्ठता के लिए मनाने की योजना के बारे में सोचा।

अब हुआ यूं कि उनके घर के पास एक छोटी सी पहाड़ी पर एक कुतिया ने चार पिल्लों को जन्म दिया था। पिता ने वीरचंद को जाकर पता लगाने के लिए कहा कि पहाड़ी की चोटी पर क्या है। वीरचंद तेजी से पहाड़ी पर चढ़ गया और तुरंत लौट आया।

पिता ने उससे पूछा, “बेटा, तुमने वहाँ पहाड़ी पर क्या देखा?”

वीरचंद ने उत्तर दिया, “पिताजी, उस पहाड़ी पर एक कुतिया ने पिल्लों को जन्म दिया है।”

पिता ने आगे कहा, “कितने पिल्ले हैं?”

वीरचंद को नहीं पता था जवाब! इसलिए, वह फिर से पहाड़ी पर चढ़ गया और तुरंत लौट आया। उसने कहा, “पिताजी, चार पिल्ले हैं।”

पिता ने कहा, “पिल्ले किस रंग के हैं?”

फिर, वीरचंद को जवाब नहीं पता था! इसलिए, वह पहाड़ी पर दौड़ा और शीघ्र ही लौट आया। उसने कहा, “पिताजी, पिल्लों में से एक काला है और अन्य तीन भूरे रंग के हैं।”

कुछ समय बाद, पिता ने विद्याचतुर को बुलाया और कहा कि वह जाकर पता करे कि पहाड़ी की चोटी पर क्या है।

विद्याचतुर पहाड़ी पर चढ़ गया और कुछ देर बाद वापस आ गया।

पिता ने उससे पूछा, “बेटा, तुमने पहाड़ी पर क्या देखा?”

विद्याचतुर ने उत्तर दिया, “पिताजी, उस पहाड़ी पर एक कुतिया ने पिल्लों को जन्म दिया है।”

पिता ने आगे उससे पूछा, “कितने पिल्ले हैं?”

विद्याचतुर ने तुरंत उत्तर दिया, “पिताजी, चार पिल्ले हैं।”

पिता ने फिर पूछा, “पिल्ले किस रंग के हैं?

“पिताजी, पिल्लों में से एक काला है और अन्य तीन भूरे हैं,” विद्याचतुर ने तुरंत उत्तर दिया।

जब पिता विद्याचतुर से ये सवाल पूछ रहे थे तो वीरचंद भी वहां मौजूद थे। उसने महसूस किया कि उसका बड़ा भाई केवल एक बार पहाड़ी पर गया था और कुतिया और उसके पिल्लों के बारे में सारी जानकारी लाया था। लेकिन वही जानकारी लेने के लिए उन्हें वहां तीन बार जाना पड़ा।

अब वीरचंद भी अपने भाई की बुद्धि की प्रशंसा करने लगे। उसने महसूस किया कि उसका भाई वास्तव में उससे श्रेष्ठ था।
